I have reviewed several of these products for this sleep review. They all do one or more of the following:
Stimulate the body's natural sleep cycle. Some will increase the number of REMs (Rapid Eye Movement), or reduce the number of LPs (Light Sleep) while others will reduce the amount of time spent in deep sleep (Deep Sleep). Many will have some kind of a short-term effect on the amount of REMs. Some will improve sleep efficiency, some won't. Some will cause the body to release melatonin, which makes the body feel more alert. Most are not likely to work very well for everyone, but some may have some positive effects. Some of the popular products: If you are trying to wake up at night, you might benefit from a light or a sound treatment. It's hard to use them every night. If you have trouble with the light treatment, a loud noise might be effective as a trigger to wake up. These products are a good way to start. You can use sound as a trigger, but you should be very careful. A loud sound can wake up any sleeping person. The sound may also cause stress. It may make the person feel anxious or irritable.
